Here is a DVD that I recently sold on Amazon fulfillment. Not everything I sell is a huge money maker. In fact this type of item is my bread and butter. I paid $1 for it at my local Half Price Books store and listed it for $12.74. After Amazon fees I cleared $7.92 for a profit of $6.92. It does also cost me 30 to 50 cents per item to send my stuff to the Amazon fulfillment warehouse.

This DVD is from 2010 and at that age DVDs are usually not worth anything. But using my Amazon seller scanning app on my iPhone, I was able to determine that I could profit from this one. If it had been a $3 DVD as most are at Half Price Books, I would  not have bought it as I like to try to make at least 4 times what I pay for an item, if it is a lower priced item.

They apparently did not mass produce this one, so the market is not flooded. It had a good Amazon sales rank of around 6,000 and sold within a week of me shipping it to the warehouse. I typically try to only buy DVDs with a sales rank of less than 100,000.

Not everything I sell is a book, although my sales are heavily weighted that way. I found this item at a local Goodwill store. It had older packaging but the same ISBN and was the exact same item. That is very important when you sell--make sure your item matches the listing. This item was brand new which was important to get maximum value and to avoid potential negative feedback from a picky buyer. This item sold within a day of arriving at the Amazon fulfillment warehouse.

I was able to list it for $44.99, and I cleared $34.23 after Amazon fees. I paid $2 so my profit was $32.23. Keep in mind that by using Amazon fulfillment you are normally able to list for a price that is higher than the non-fulfillment items, because people want to order an item shipped directly from Amazon, and they usually get free shipping.
I really lucked out when I found this item in a Goodwill store. It is a current textbook, and those are going to be some of the biggest money makers you can find. I shipped it off in a batch of item to the Amazon fulfillment center. I'm in the Milwaukee area so it routed my boxes to Joliet IL which took only about 2 days. I had only paid $3 for this item but was able to list it for $73.78! It sold within a day of arrival and after fees I received $58.65. Yeah, Amazon takes a lot of fees! But I cleared $55.65. Keep in mind that textbooks sell best in the month or two before school starts. I sold this one in July. Textbooks keep their value until a new edition comes out, which is usually every 2-3 years. Then the old edition drops dramatically in value and sales rank. But this just goes to show that there is money to be made.
